Warwick, Rhode Island
We are always so happy to have an opportunity to spend time with this team. This day provided a much-needed moment of reset, reflection, and renewal as we experienced a powerful shift in energy and intention, aligned around a new set of core values: Trust, Respect, Courage, and Commitment.
Letting Go to Make Room for Growth
The day opened with a powerful dissolving paper exercise, where each team member privately wrote down what they wanted to release — be it limiting beliefs, fears, or unproductive habits. Watching those notes dissolve was a symbolic and collective act of clearing space for new beginnings.
Living Our Values: Affirmation Through Connection
We explored our new values through the interactive “Affirmation via Values” activity:
- Team members reflected on which value resonated most with them personally.
- They then selected a colleague and shared an affirmation — either a specific moment or a broader acknowledgment of how that person lives out that value.
- These notes were placed in a communal Affirmation Jar, with the intention to observe and affirm each other over the following two days.
- Many of these affirmations were shared aloud, reinforcing the importance of seeing and celebrating one another through the lens of our shared principles.
Who is Herren? Co-Creating Identity through Storytelling
In a creative, team-driven exercise, we asked ourselves: Who is Herren? The team split into two groups and tackled the question using different media:
- Podcast Group 1 created a scripted intake interview featuring four individuals, each struggling with a different challenge. The group explored how each person could be supported by one of our core values — especially the empowering role of Courage in recovery.
- Podcast Group 2 interviewed four fictional clients in recovery, each sharing a meaningful experience that highlighted one of the values. These stories brought to life how values like Respect and Commitment are felt and remembered.
- Commercial Team crafted a TV-style advertisement focused on clarity of message: who we are, whom we serve, and the purpose that drives us.
The exercise was not only energizing and imaginative — it also surfaced rich, emotional insights into how we express our identity to the outside world and support each other internally.
mission moments
Everyone had an opportunity to share the moments that remind them of why you do what you do. Some things to celebrate included:
1,740 scholarships awarded to date
seeing people overcome addiction and change their lives for the better
showing up every day to support each other; it is not just a job
Herren Club activities taken to a national level
As a team you allowed yourselves to imagine future mission moments like:
more prevention for kids
holding pharmaceutical companies and prescribers accountable
less substance abuse disorder overall
Looking Forward
This gathering was more than just a team offsite. It was a recommitment to purpose and a collective embrace of the values that will guide our actions, decisions, and culture moving forward. The energy in the room — candid, creative, and connected — reminded us of what makes this team so unique.
We left The LOOM with full hearts, clearer vision, and a renewed sense of alignment. The real work begins now: living these values out loud, every day, together.
